The First Methodist Church of Anson would like to say thank you to each person who fought the fire, cleaned the damage, prepared the new place of worship, and takes on the responsibility of the rebuilding journey.
We would also like to thank those who sent a donation, big or small. The Lord has blessed us more than we ever expected by everyone who gave so we can start rebuilding with less financial worry.
And lastly, thank you all for your prayers. These prayers have been a true blessing and we have no doubts that each one is genuine and have given us God’s strength to handle such a tragic event.
THANK YOU
In May 2023, our congregation took a devastating blow when our beloved historic sanctuary was struck by lightning and was soon engulfed in flames. Through the hard work of our local fire department and first responders, the fire did not spread to the rest of the facility. It was a heartbreaking view as the flames raged on and the building continued to smolder for days afterwards.
The Fire
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 61:3
Rebuilding & Growing
While our sanctuary may be destroyed, our spirits and faith in Jesus are stronger than ever! As of mid August, the rubble has been cleared and plans have been put in motion to rebuild our church. Services are now being held in the fellowship hall where a beautiful new altar has been constructed by a few of our craftsmen in the congregation. The Lord is working and moving in the church since the fire and we can’t wait to see what His plans are for FMC Anson!
The rebuilding process is estimated to be a long and challenging one but we are ready to take it on. Many have asked what they can do to help to make it easier on our church.
PRAY
The first and most important thing you can do to help us is to pray for our congregation that we may remain strong in our faith as we take on the rebuilding process. Your prayer is felt by every member and we are so thankful for each and every one!
DONATIONS
We have been so blessed by a great amount of donations already and are in no way asking for handouts. If God has put it on your heart to help out financially, an account has been set up at First National Bank of Anson. Donations can be made at the bank or mailed to:
